Reuben Lai

Reuben Lai studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under David Pollard and Paul Farrington and with Peter Alexander Wilson and Stephen Robertson at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with the generous assistance of Chevron-Texaco, the National Arts Council (Singapore) and the RSAMD Postgraduate Fund. He is the first Singaporean to be chosen for the prestigious Samling scholarship in the UK.

 

As a performer, he has worked with many different international orchestras, ensembles and chamber groups over the years including the Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, New Opera Singapore, Braddell Heights Symphony, Singapore Lyric Opera, Celebration Chorus, Ab Oriente amongst others. He is also the artistic director of a chamber opera company L’arietta Productions with soprano Akiko Otao specializing in contemporary chamber opera.

 

As an educator, Reuben has been involved in choral training, studio teaching and giving workshops and works as an adjunct teacher in the School of the Arts,Lasalle College of the Arts. and a lecturer at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
